Between Thomas Edison and Nikola Tesla, the more superior inventor was Nikola Tesla. Thomas Edison was a former boss of Tesla. In the 1880’s they feuded over who’s electrical system would be used in the future. Edison fought for his direct- current system; Tesla for his alternating- current system. Even though both inventors’ creations are used to the day, Nikola Tesla was still the better inventor.
Tesla was a better inventor, and it is proven in a Live Science article. The researcher stated that, “Tesla had an eidetic memory,” meaning, “he could build working prototypes using few preliminary drawings.” Tesla was known for his brilliant mind and the way he used his imagination to create his inventions, while Edison sketched and tinkered instead. The text also said, “Tesla was the true father of radio, telephones, cell phones, and television.” He was a forward thinker, and he invested is time to the future moreover the creation of present day technologies. It has been noted that Tesla had 300 worldwide patents, while Edison had over 1,090. However, Edison bought multiple of his patents and had assistance with inventing all most all of his creations that were later patented. Comparing Tesla with Edison based on the number of patents under each of their name is unfair based on Edison’s advantages.
Tesla was more personable than the angry Edison. For example, “Tesla was charismatic, urbane and witty. He spoke several languages.” This made him a better person than the “hard of hearing and introverted” Edison. In fact, Tesla was a better inventor because he was more personable, easier to communicate with, and had a great personality.
When arguing weather Nikola Tesla or Thomas Edison was a better inventor, it is clear that Tesla was more brilliant, was very futuristic, and personable. Because he worked more efficiently, is “the backbone of modern day power and communication systems,” and was a better person, Tesla was an overall better inventor. Some people believe Edison was a better inventor, but they are incorrect. Based on Live Sciences’ informational article, Tesla is a much better inventor.
Reflection:
Looking forward on this work, I notice that I have details that I would like to improve on. I think the work would have been stronger if I added another 2 or 3 sentences in each paragraph. I would have taken it just one step deeper into my train of thought.
Next time I work on an argumentative paper, I am going to work on using several resources. Instead of using one given source, I will expand my research. Digging deeper into books and online sources will allow me to expand my way of thinking. This will hopefully allow me to not only get a greater grade, but I will grow as an argumentative writer.
I think I could have used more help with the revising and editing stages. It would have been useful to be able to get help from my peers and from the teacher for one day in class. Knowing the thoughts and ideas of other students, and learning hints and tips to writing in general individualized to my piece I was working on.
